Powerful Hybrid System

The XM’s plug-in hybrid system incorporates a 4.4L BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8 as its primary source of power. Combining it with a high-performance electric motor, the setup churns out an earsplitting 644 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. An 8-speed M Steptronic transmission provides smooth automatic shifts for regular city driving, but you can switch to manual mode for an extra layer of engagement. With launch control, the BMW XM sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds.

If you are looking for the best performance figures in the M lineup, your local BMW dealership offers the BMW XM Label. This track-ready SUV offers a thunderous 738 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque at your disposal, enabling you to launch from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds.

Standard All-Wheel Drive

BMW’s performance AWD system, M xDrive, comes standard on the XM. It intelligently varies power distribution between the four wheels depending on driving conditions, giving the SUV optimal traction both on and off-road. By default, the system has a rear bias to improve the XM’s handling, and engaging 4WD Sport mode amplifies this effect for enhanced driving dynamics. The drivetrain also includes an M Sport rear differential that helps the SUV transfer all of its horses to the tarmac.

All-Electric Mode

You can turn off the mighty V8 for a quiet, eco-friendly drive by engaging ELECTRIC mode. The lithium-ion battery allows the SUV to drive up to 31 miles using only the electric motor before bottoming out. This allows the BMW XM to achieve an EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 46 MPGe combined.

The battery can be recharged by either switching on the combustion engine or by plugging the SUV into an AC charger. Commuters can skip gas bills completely by connecting the BMW XM to a Level 2 charger at the end of the day. This replenishes the driving range completely in under 10 hours.

Hands-Free Highway Driving Technology

When you are not chasing down sports cars on the race track, the BMW XM’s advanced driver assistance technology handles most of the driving for you. For 2025, the standard driver assistance suite includes BMW’s innovative semi-autonomous driving mode, Active Driving Assistant Professional. The system drives at speeds of up to 85 mph and uses smart features such as Lane Departure Warning and Active Blind Spot Detection for safety.
