BMW M Performance

BMW M Performance models sit just below the full-blown M cars in BMW’s lineup. Here are some of the standout machines from this exciting group.

Exploring BMW M Performance Models

M235 xDrive Gran Coupe

Meet the most approachable M Performance model. And by approachable, we mean a 312-hp turbocharged rocket that hits 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. It shows off its stuff with a wide, low-positioned M kidney grille, a flowing roofline, and a black rear diffuser that attracts attention while framing the quad exhaust.

M240i

Step up to the M240i, where a 382-hp turbocharged inline-six brings serious heat. Rear-wheel drive models hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, but opt for all-wheel drive and you’re there in 4.1.

M340i

A ripping 386-hp six-cylinder and remarkable body control make the M340i the entry-level luxury sports sedan to beat. RWD versions can launch you from 0 to 60 in just 4.4 seconds, while AWD variants shave that down to 4.1 seconds.

M440i

This model shares the turbocharged straight-six from the M340i but struts around in more outfits. While the M340i sticks to sedan duty, this one comes in three body styles: classic coupe, 5-door liftback (marketed as Gran Coupe by BMW), and open-air convertible. 0-60 times vary, but the xDrive Coupe variant steals the show with a 4.2-second run

M850i

Standard all-wheel drive and the 523-hp 4.4-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8. Sounds like the perfect recipe for a grin-inducing performance, doesn’t it? Here are the 0–60 mph times: 3.6 seconds for the Coupe, 3.7 seconds for the Gran Coupe, and 3.9 seconds for the Convertible model.

Z4 M40i Roadster

Thanks to its 382-hp engine, this open-top two-seater goes from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds with the standard eight-speed automatic transmission and from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds with the available six-speed manual gearbox.

X1 M35i SUV

The smallest offering in the M Performance SUV lineup comes with a turbocharged 312-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, adaptive dampers, and upgraded brakes. Its 0 to 60 mph time is a cool 5.2 seconds.

X2 M35i Coupe SUV

The X2 M35i Coupe SUV shares the same engine as the X1 M35i SUV but turns heads with its coupe-like styling and lower stance. Think of it as the X1 M35i SUV’s sportier sibling.

X3 M50 xDrive SUV

This spicy SUV dishes out a healthy 393 horsepower, rockets from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds, squeezes out a solid 27 mpg combined, and rocks a quad-tailpipe usually only seen on M models.
